Celebrate CNY 2026 with festive workshops for your team

This CNY 2026, are you ready to gallop into the Year of the Horse with your colleagues? We've curated a stable of activities that are fantastic for the occasion (some may even say auspicious!), and conveniently doubles as a team building activity.

Upcycle orange peels into a scrub

Every Chinese New Year, those box-loads of oranges will invariably generate a huge amount of food waste. Besides numerous ways to use leftover orange fruit, we can also make meaningful use of the peel. One way would be to transform the orange peels into a scrub - which you can use as a hand or body scrub. Imagine taking the bountiful symbolism of oranges and lathering your body in prosperity, luck and fortune. Turn down for huat, turn on the "huat-ah!" - it's going to be a good year!

Upcycle orange peels into a cleaning solution

Besides turning orange peels into scrub, there is another popular use for orange peels - and there are bound to be more than enough leftover peels to go around. You can turn orange peels into ecoenzymes, which can be used as fertiliser or a cleaning solution. The orange peels will essentially ferment in a solution, which you can use to spray at plant soil or on dirty surfaces. Now you can think about this as fortune water and spray the prosperous "huat-ah!" around the office or house!

Upcycle coffee grounds into a soap or scrub

House visits are a staple of Chinese New Year celebrations in Singapore, and this usually leads to excess byproducts like coffee grounds from batches of brewed coffee for your guests. While there are lots of ways you can use these coffee grounds such as in cooking or to remove odours, you can also upcycle these coffee grounds into hand soap or body scrub. Beyond the lunar new year, you can continue to do this for coffee grounds in your workplace or at home.

Learn to make your own CNY snacks

You'll learn to make snacks, which could even be sourced from food byproducts such as spent grain that would otherwise have been discarded. This could inspire you to make your own CNY snacks and goodies for your guests. Depending on which activity you choose, you could even make enough to use for your own CNY celebrations, share it with your colleagues, or even purchase some of these CNY goodies to try!
